If you’ve heard of Mint Mobile, you’re probably wondering whether or not it’s good. In this article, I share my experience with Mint Mobile and tell you why I think Mint Mobile is a good option to go with.
Mint Mobile Is Affordable
If you’re like me, then saving money is key.
What enticed me most about Mint Mobile was the cost – it’s the most affordable cell phone service on the market!
Most people pay around $100 a month for cell service, which is crazy to me.
I pay about $180 for the entire year! And I pay it up front, so I have no monthly payments to worry about.
Since it’s so cheap, you’re probably wondering if it’s good or not.
I think you’d be surprised at how good it actually is – I know I was!
I’ve been with Mint Mobile for over a year now, and I can honestly say it’s definitely the way to go.
When I first switched to Mint Mobile, I was so impressed with it that I wrote an article about it a few months in: Best Cheapest Cell Phone Carrier: Mint Mobile.
Now that I’ve had it for over a year, I’m still a fan.
But let’s talk about the coverage.
Mint Mobile Coverage Map
According to the Mint Mobile coverage map, the service appears to be pretty solid.
Sure there are some spotty areas, but I imagine you’d have issues in those areas with almost any provider (I can’t say for sure, though).
The best way to check coverage in your area is to use the interactive coverage map on the Mint Mobile website.
It allows you to put in your zip code to see what kind of coverage you can expect in your area. Then you might decide whether or not it’s worth trying.
I think it’s certainly worth trying, especially since they offer a free trial.
Mint Mobile Free Trial
Mint Mobile allows you to try the service risk-free for 7 days.
You will have to pay $5 for the SIM card kit – but if you end up signing on, they will credit it back to your account.
What’s nice is you can keep the phone you have now (assuming it’s paid for) as well as your phone number.
Transferring your current phone number to Mint Mobile is easy to do, and they will give you instructions on how to do it.
Follow their instructions, though, if you plan to keep your number. You Don’t want to end up losing your number if you do it incorrectly.
You can always get a new number, too, especially if you’re tired of getting those telemarketing calls.
Mint Mobile Network
Mint Mobile operates on T-Mobile’s network, so you might anticipate similar coverage between the two providers.
When I switched from Sprint to Mint Mobile a year ago, I didn’t notice much of a difference in coverage at all.
Now that Sprint and T-Mobile have merged, I imagine there will be even less interruptions to worry about.
It used to be that you couldn’t use any phone on the Mint Mobile network, but I think a lot has changed since then.
Now days I think almost any phone will work with Mint Mobile – assuming it’s unlocked.
In fact – if you really want to save money, the best thing to do is to buy your phones outright on Amazon.
Not only will you save a ton on the service, you’ll save on the phone, too.
Mint Mobile Plans
As far as the plans are concerned, Mint Mobile has three basic options. You can find them here on the website.
They basically offer a 3GB, 8GB, and 12GB option.
Here are some screenshots:
Keep in mind these prices are for new customers or those who buy service in bulk. That’s what I do, which is also how you get the lowest rate possible.
I go with the 3GB option since it’s the cheapest, and I auto-renew each year. That helps me get the best deal possible.
By the way – if you don’t think that 3GB is enough data, check out the screen shot below! Notice I still have half my data available 3 days from renewal.
If you’re smart about it, you can get by with a lot less data than you think.
3GB is plenty of data for someone like me, especially since I’m always on WiFi.
Pro tip: to maximize savings, buy less data and use WiFi whenever possible.
Like most providers these days, all plans include unlimited talk and text, so the cost is just for for data.
With Mint Mobile, you can make it even cheaper by only paying for the data you need.
Mint Mobile Customer Service
Fortunately for me, I haven’t had to deal much with customer service. This is primarily due to the fact that I haven’t had any issues, really.
There was one time where I wasn’t getting service, so I did have to call.
I was having service issues in particular area – an area that I hadn’t had issues with before, so that was a little strange.
I called them up on a landline and spoke to someone over the phone.
After a few minutes of trying to troubleshoot the issue over the phone, they ended up sending me a new SIM card – no questions asked.
However, I ended up getting service while the SIM card was on its way.
They told me it would take about 5-7 days, but I received the new SIM card in about 2, so I was happy with that.
I still have the SIM card for backup in case I start having issues again, but so far things have been good.
That was the only time I had to call customer service, but overall I was happy with the service received.
I think Mint Mobile is still the way to go; you can’t beat it for the money, and I’m all about saving money!
The service is good, but the freedom is better. I love the fact that you can buy in bulk to maximize savings.
I also love being able to use any phone I want, which allows me to take advantage of the best phone deals I can find.
At the end of the day, Mint Mobile is worth trying; check it out today!
